The Scribe
The Scribe is the anonymous biographer who is the notional author of The New Essential Guide to Characters, as according to Mr. Daniel
Wallace’s Introduction, “this guide is written from the perspective of an in-galaxy scribe, transcribing the biographies of the galaxy's key heroes
and villains in the midst of the apocalyptic Yuuzhan Vong invasion (approximately twenty-seven years after
A New Hope)”; it is unknown if the
scribe had any connection to the scholars, who wrote their encyclopedia about two years earlier, in 60 rS. His or her work should be carefully
checked for bias, as his or her own passions and prejudices might have influenced the entries; errors in the guide deriving from ambiguity,
incautious wording, faulty chronological placement, or outright contradiction, may be explained by poor scholarship or incomplete data on the
scribe’s part. The scribe is especially useful in that he or she provides the reader with a glimpse of how the major characters are regarded within
the
Star Wars universe itself.

Unqualified references to “the scribe” throughout this site generally refer to this biographer.
