The Test of Wills
A long time ago in a galaxy far,
far away...
This part of The Test of Wills was republished on 26 July 2007.

The opening quote to “Part I: Descent into the Darkness” is from William Shakespeare’s play
Julius Caesar, first performed
in 1599. The title of “Part II: Where Angels Fear to Tread” is a reference to the remark in Alexander Pope’s
An Essay on
Criticism
that “fools rush in where angels fear to tread”; the opening quote is paraphrased from Friedrich Nietzsche’s Beyond
Good and Evil: Prelude to a Philosophy of the Future
. The title of “Part III: The Emperor’s New Clones” is a reference to
Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale “The Emperor’s New Clothes” (from 1837’s
Fairy Tales, Told for Children); the
opening quote is from William Shakespeare’s
Henry V (also from 1599), where it is included in the titular character’s famous
speech at the siege of Harfleur.
